Where can I buy HVAC Parts/Why can't I buy HVAC Parts in Canada?

Posted by

There really is not much of a difference between a car and your furnace.

If you are knowledgeable and have the mechanical know-how to work on your car, then chances are, you can work on your furnace too! (i.e electric motor, Bryant Furnace Motor)

The problem is...there are not many companies in Ontario Mississauga, Burlington, Oakville, peel region, Hamilton, St. Catherine's, Ottawa, area that are willing to sell you the parts. At http://www.oemhvacpartscanada.ca Online Store, we are one of the few that will.

Why is this?

There are many reasons why, but two reasons stand out.

Firstly, most local HVAC companies, technicians and small contractors do not know their own code book when it comes to selling OEM HVAC parts (the regulations for the HVAC trade); many large companies seem to focus on the parts of the code book that make them money. Once a technician is out of school, they seem to forget about the first 50 pages in the Gas Code Book. lots of contractor/Tech will tell their customers that it is illegal for them to sell an HVAC part directly to a customer; we to have had some of our tech tell customers this when they worked for other HVAC companies.)

This is 100% False. In ON Reg. 212/01, it states nowhere that a contractor or HVAC company is not permitted to sell a customer HVAC parts.

If you are still a little hesitant, we emailed TSSA (Technical Standards & Safety Authority) directly to ask them this question.

Asked, "Can our company sell HVAC equipment to customers?"

The response was direct and to the point, "ON Reg. 212/01 does not prohibit an individual or a company from "selling" products of this nature"

- TSSA

To be fair to the HVAC companies out there, I am not surprised that most believe that selling parts directly to the customer is illegal. The reason for this is, if you wanted to purchase parts directly from an Local HVAC part manufacturer, or a Local dealer, and went to their location, they would tell you that they could not sell you the parts, unless you could provide proof that you are licensed and register HVAC contractor.

So many HVAC companies continue to carry this policy on to their customers, thinking that this must be the law, but as you can see above, it is not.

Secondly, HVAC companies know that there are people that can change out parts themselves. For example: to change a Lennox, Armstrong, Fasco 7021-9450 or A225 venter blower it could take 15 minutes, for an experience person, and maybe up to an hour, for someone who is inexperienced. If you are mechanically inclined, this is definitely something that you could complete yourself, as a Fasco A163 (7021-9450) venter blower consists of 4 bolts and a connection terminal, for the power.

Local HVAC companies are uncomfortable with the thought of this and get very defensive when a customers tells them that they can change the part, by themselves. Why does it make them uncomfortable? It means that they are not making as much money. A Furnace / AC service call could cost $300 and if they sell a customer the part directly, they would only make $50; many Local HVAC companies do not think it is worth their time or effort to sell you the OEM Part if all there going to make is $50.00.

Despite many Local HVAC companies that do not sell customers parts directly, or will mislead you on weather or not it's even worth changing the part, rather than replace the furnace / AC system. Which lots of HVAC companies will try to do, in order for you to think that you need to replace the furnace rather then fixes the furnace. We here at OemHvacPartsCanada.ca believe in trusting your judgment on weather you want to replace the OEM Part or to change out your System.
